FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
from Our Clients
If you’ve never hired someone to write online content — such as your website, blog or newsletter — you have questions. How does it work? What does it cost? These are questions all Ray Access’ clients have at the beginning. All it usually takes is a short conversation to move beyond the queries. So we’ve listed the most common questions here, both to shorten that conversation and to ease any concerns you may have.
The Ray Access writers and editors are true professionals. They meet the deadlines they set. They take constructive criticism objectively, not personally. In fact, they like feedback! Ray Access wants to make the process as easy for you as possible. In that light, here are the answers to some common questions:
How can you write about my business?
Either Mark or Linda, the two principals and cofounders of Ray Access, ask about your business before beginning your project. They are top content writers each with more than two decades of experience. Questions about your service area and your customer base are common openers. Using your initial input, we then use appropriate — and authoritative — websites to do our research.
If you’re a medical practitioner, for example, research sites include the Mayo Clinic and National Institutes of Health, among other valid sources. If your business does roofing, you’d be surprised at the amount of information available online from professional associations and experienced roofers. From one conversation and some thorough, credible research, we can write your entire site. Contact us to learn more.
What do you charge for website content?
We don’t have a set price for writing online content. We don’t charge by the hour. Instead, we typically charge by the word and page-counts. Prices are based on three factors:
- The number of pages you order (e.g., 40 pages)
- The length of each page (e.g., at least 800 words)
- The complexity of the subject matter, as some industries — such as cutting-edge technology — just take longer to research
Ray Access prices are much lower in general than large agency’s. For example, at Ray Access, you may pay $200 for a single web page of about 800 words. But that same page may cost as little as $125 if you want us to write the whole website of 40-plus pages. Larger web development agencies often charge as much as $1 a word! Contact us for the most reasonable quote you’ll find anywhere.
What do I need to know before I hire you to write my website?
How long does it take to complete writing my website project?
Part of the time required involves the double-editing process that ensures the quality of every page. In fact, the editing process sometimes takes longer than the writing process, but both are vital to get the best results. But while we’re working on your project, you’re our top priority, and we’ll deliver the pages as soon as possible, and to an agreed-upon deadline. Contact us to get started.
How do you deliver the pages you write?
Why do I need a website assessment?
You can also order a website assessment if you just want to learn how your website is performing from a user experience (UX) point of view. During the process, the principals at Ray Access crawl through your website, page by page, to pull out exactly how well it works for your visitors. Get one for your website today.
What do you charge for blog writing?
- The number of blog posts you order (e.g., one a month)
- The length of each post (e.g., at least 500 words)
- The complexity of the subject matter
Ray Access prices are much lower in general than large agency prices. A single blog post of about 500 words generally runs about $100. Package deals are the way to go, however. And they get you regular blog positioning as well as lower costs. For example: for only $475 a month, you’re guaranteed:
- One blog post a week (4 or 5 each month)
- One of which is at least 1,000 words (stand-alone cost is $250)
- Another that’s at least 750 words (average single-blog costs is $200)
- A list of blog topics for each month that you approve
Since each blog post should have an accompanying image, we provide one for a nominal fee. Contact us for a personalized quote.
Can I order just one blog post or do I need to sign up for monthly articles?
We advise our clients that you need to blog consistently for at least three months before you see any marketing benefits. The more you blog, the quicker you see those benefits. If you blog once a month, you will see benefits, but it will simply take longer. Contact us to tell us about your blogging needs.
When can I expect my monthly blog posts?
Once you’re on our schedule, we research, write and edit your blog posts the month before you need them. Then we deliver them to you before the beginning of that month. For example, if we owe you four blog posts for June, we’ll send you all four at the end of May, with a proposed publication schedule. Unless you’re paying us to post them on your site, which we can do, it’s up to you or your website maintenance person to publish them.
By the way, we invoice you for the blog posts you order when we deliver them. You do not need to pay up front for blog posts, although we can set up a quarterly billing cycle if that’s easier for you. Contact us to learn more.
What platform do you use for electronic newsletters?
How many email addresses can I give you for a newsletter? What are the costs involved?
Ray Access has standard rates for writing your newsletters, as follows:
- $150 for 250–500 words, which is most common and includes one royalty-free stock photo
- $200 for 501–750 words, which includes two royalty-free stock photos
Longer newsletters aren’t recommended because newsletters aren’t a long-form content. Contact us to learn how Ray Access can manage your newsletters.
How much lead time do you need to deliver a press release?
Generally, we like to have at least a week to write and edit a press release for you. In some situations, however, we can turn around a press release in as little as 24 hours, although that comes with a nominal rush fee of 20 percent. We take care to maintain the quality of everything we do, and press releases in particular require careful attention to capture the essence of your story.
